Reading, English, and Spelling
Welcome to my webpage!
In my class, I have a typical routine, although it is always subject to change, especially if we have a short week, an extra Mass, a special presentation/program, or a school-wide activity. When we do novels in Reading, it will change the Reading routine.
SPELLING
Week of 10/06/08, we are not doing Spelling due to Terra Nova testing.
| Monday | In class: We will read and discuss the "Think and Write" section of the new unit. | Homework: On loose-leaf paper with a proper heading, sort the 20 Basic words from the current unit and (in cursive) write them in the correct category listed in the gray box with red print which is on the first page of the unit. Number your paper from 1-20 straight down the left side of your paper (without skipping lines). Put the category title in the margin to the left of the number of the first word in that category. For example, if the first category has six words in it, then you would write the second category title next to #7. PLEASE CHECK YOUR WORK, especially your spelling and handwriting. |
| Tuesday | In class: I will explain the second page of the new unit for the students to complete for homework. | Homework: On loose-leaf paper with a proper heading, please number your paper straight down the left side. Follow the directions in the book as I explained in class, and (in cursive) write the correct word next to the correct number. PLEASE CHECK YOUR WORK!

Week of 10/06/08, Grade 5 will do pages 20-25 and workbook pages 10-12 on compound subjects and predicates and run-on sentences.
Grade 6 will do pp. 20-25 and wb pp. 10-12 on compound predicates and run-on sentences.
Journal entry due 10/8: Write about a family project you have done (or would like to do) with your family. Why? Who did (or would do) what? Give details about the project.
Journal entry due 10/15: Describe your favorite sandwich. Use lots of details and descriptive adjectives to describe the things on it, how it was made, how it tastes, how it is served or presented, etc...

Week of 10/06/08, we will not read a story from the textbook due to Terra Nova testing.
| Monday | In class: We will read and discuss the Skill Lesson on the two pages before the next story. Students will discuss the meanings of the "Words to Know" (WTK) in groups, and then the whole class will discuss them. I will explain the homework assignment. |
Homework:
On looseleaf and using the glossary, write the
definitions for the Words to Know listed on the first page of the story. |

Homework:
Vocabulary workbook page for the current story. (WBp._2) (It
always ends in a 2: the first story was p.2, the second story was
